What is a castor oil pack?

A castor oil pack is a powerful naturopathic technique aimed at stimulating the liver to detoxify. For this reason it is even better to do this during spring or late summer when the liver is at its peak functioning. Ideally you would be do in the castor oil in evening when the liver is doing its work.  Then follow it with a water enema to flush out the rest of the toxins.

It is said that castor oil helps to bring in white light into the body which is particularly beneficial for the endocrine system and to gain more awareness in our consciousness. In fact, the healing qualities of castor oil have been known since ancient times.

How to do a castor oil pack?

You will need a wool or cotton flannel cloth about 25cm wide and 30-35cm long once it is folded three times. Add castor oil until the cloth is well soaked but not dripping.

Set the pack on the area of your liver which is on the right side under the right breast and under the ribs. If you want to work on another area like the abdomen for bloating or pain or the kidneys for support, place a second pack there. Always include the liver pack.

Put a hot water bottle over the packs. You can place plastic between the pack and the bottle if you want. Some people use cling film to keep the pack in place. Wrap a large towel around your body to hold everything steady. You can set the hot water bottle on top of the towel.

The heat warms the oil and helps it absorb into the skin.

Keep the pack on for ideally one hour while you rest. Many people find the process calming. Some feel that warming the liver area helps them release built up tension or anger.

Store the used pack in a plastic bag. Add more castor oil when needed. You can reuse the same pack about twenty times before washing it.
